Following a third-place finish in last year's renewal, Safe Passage has sat prominently in the 2023 Durban July betting throughout the season.

Safe Passage will wear the number 14 saddle cloth, having been placed in stall 14 when the draw was made and Soumillon will carry the blue and white silks of owner-breeder Drakenstein Stud.
