Winchester Mansion has been slashed in the betting for the 2023 Durban July, following two excellent performances at Hollywoodbets Greyville.
Prior to a recent gelding operation, Brett Crawford's four-year-old was a 50/1 outsider for the Durban July. Winchester Mansion had won just three times in 12 career starts, finishing a well-beaten seventh behind Rascallion on his first outing of the New Year at Kenilworth.
Crawford decided it was time for a gelding operation and Winchester Mansion has ben transformed ever since. First, Kabelo Matsunyane's mount crossed the line second behind Pacaya in the WSB 1990, a performance he built on in the Dolphin Cup at Greyville last Saturday, where Winchester Mansion ran out a decisive winner.
Hollywoodbets trimmed Crawford's runner into 14s from 50/1 following his WSB 1900 effort. That price almost halved again on Saturday evening, as Winchester Mansion was cut into 8/1 third-favouritism for the 2023 Durban July, which takes place at Greyville in two week's time.
