The 2024 Durban July took place at Greyville this afternoon and viewers were treated to another fantastic renewal of South Africa's top race.
Green With Envy jumped to the head of the betting after his win in the Daily News 2000 and remained the favourite during the build-up. Winchester Mansion returned to defend his crown and last year's winner was smashed in the betting beforehand, coming into 6/1 before the off.
See It Again moved in the opposite direction today, going off at a huge price of 10/1. Royal Victory and Oriental Charm joined See It Again on that price, with Barbaresco, Future Swing and Flag Man a little bigger in the final market.
Without Question was scratched from the race on Thursday, allowing first reserve and stablemate Hluhluwe to take part in the race. Cousin Casey, Future Pearl and Aragosta came in for a bit of support before the off.

2nd | Cousin Casey |
3rd | Royal Victory |
4th | Flag Man |
5th | See It Again |
Purple Pitcher was the first to show, as the runners burst out of the stalls. Oriental Charm and Flag Man remained wider than the other runners to try and get a good position, and they managed to hit the front as the field moved into the bend.
The early pace was hot and there were several incidents on the turn. Master Redoute was pushed wide after some scrimmaging, and Shoemaker was forced to pull up after being inconvenienced.
Winchester Mansion and See It Again sat in the centre of the pack. Green With Envy was stuck at the rear turning for home and the favourite could never get involved from there.
Oriental Charm and Flag Man were first to set out for home. Royal Victory made up ground on the outside of the field, as Cousin Casey and See It Again made ground along the inside rail.
With Cousin Casey mounting a serious challenge, Oriental Charm drifted towards the inside rail. See It Again was trying to come between horses, but the top weight was squeezed out of contention by Oriental Charm, who held Cousin Casey at bay to claim victory.
Cousin Casey finished second ahead of the charging Royal Victory. Flag Man crossed the line fourth, a nose ahead of the luckless See It Again.
