This week, Gold Circle issued the first log for the 2022 Durban July, which will be run at Greyville on the first Saturday in July.

Two-time Queen's Plate king, Jet Dark tops the log, ahead of last year's Durban July winner Kommetdieding, who guaranteed his spot in this year's race by winning the Cape Town Met at Kenilworth in January.
Surprise Premier Champions Challenge winner, Astrix is certain to get a run in this year's Durban July. As are the two South African Derby winners, Pomp And Power and Aragosta, Fillies' Classic winner Rain In Holland, and SA Classic winner Red Saxon.
Former Durban July winners, Do It Again and Belgarion sits 8th and 11th in the opening log. Linebacker and Double Superlative sit outside the top ten, and look highly likely to make the final cut for this year's race.
The likes of Al Muthana and Bingwa still have time to jump into the top 20. The Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge will be run on June 11th, and victory in that lucrative Group One would guarantee a spot in the Durban July field.
